History of Web | What is Web 3.0?
Before understanding it let’s recall the history of the internet.
In 1969 there were only 4 computers that were used to solve math problems. In 1989 there were 20000 computers across the USA used by universities, colleges, and organizations.
In 1992 commercial use of the Internet was allowed.
After that major break throw was the invention of the world wide web. Berners Lee and Cailliau introduced hypertext to navigate the web.
Hypertext was previously used for connecting documents across different computers and to go throw different parts of a document. It was the time of arise of Google and Facebook.
In 2002 there was a platform Geocities. It was the platform that vanished the difference between creator and visitor.
Before this, it was there was one way of communication.
But now there was two-way communication, present between the creator of the platform and visitor and vise versa.
Then there was a platform with a blue icon that overtook others and had three-way communication. Yes, that is Facebook. Now visitors were communicating with other visitors as well.
This was the time when web 2.0 started. There were Facebook, youtube, Tumblr, LinkedIn. It continued until today.
For 6 to 8 years ago there was talk on web 3.0.
For the first time, in 1992 Neil Stephenson wrote a sci-fi novel called “Snow Crash”. In the novel, avatars were meeting with one another in a 3D virtual world and virtual environments. Web 3.0 is based on blockchain technology.
The previous version of the web was centralized. For example,
when you post on Facebook your photo is stored in a server owned by Facebook. Same for other platforms as well.
On those platforms, you were the product of them. But in Web 3.0 you are the owner of your content.
